Encaustic Art – the wonder of painting with molten wax

I first discovered encaustic art (the art of painting with molten wax); using amongst other things a specially designed iron, at the NEC in Birmingham I went straight home and ordered myself a kit (via my husband) for Christmas.  At first I tinkered with my iron using the Michael Bossom encaustic books as my guide, then I discovered the Encaustic Art Trainer’s Network.  I have now been an encaustic trainer since October 2003, after successfully completing  the T1 Basic Techniques course, where I was taught by Michael himself.  Since then I have run many two-hour beginner’s courses as well as full day courses, covering such topics as abstracts, building landscapes and exploring encaustic techniques.  I also run full day courses.

This medium is particularly exciting because it is so easy to create fantastic images from the start.  I love teaching those who consider themselves not be be artistic, and seeing how they begin to wonder at what they have created.  If you are an artist, it is also wonderful as you can take these vivid wax pictures to the next level, I’ve seen some amazing works achieved by beginners and accomplished artists alike!

Memory Paintings in Molten Wax – The American Way

If you have some seashells, photos, or other memorabilia that you’d like to create into a piece of 3D art for yourself or someone special, I can also show you how to pour wax to create a Collage/Memory painting during an extended class.
